Hi there, new here (found App by accident from itTunes :p )
I generally swim 3 times per week doing between 1800-2200m in the 45 minutes i have over lunch. Used to swim competitively in South Africa till about age of 19 and started training again at about 24 or so just to keep fit.
I just need to know if someone has a general idea on how to convert the practices from yards to meters and the subsequent rest periods etc. as well - is there a general comparison etc.
Like 4 x 100 free on 1:20 - what would that equate to on 4 x 100m free on what time???
I have no reference point to yards - 1:20 - is that alot of rest or is that 5 sec rest.
i generally do 50m sets on 45 sec (between 5 sec rest or less) and 100m sets on 1:25 (7 sec rest or less).
Thanks in advance for any advice or help

Hi Ockert and welcome to the site.

A really quick conversion is 1.1. If you're changing a yards sendoff to meters, change the sendoff time to seconds and then multiply by 1.1. E.g., a 1:20 sendoff in yards would convert to a 1:28 sendoff for meters (80 seconds X 1.1 = 88 seconds = 1:28).

To go the other way, divide by 1.1. E.g., your 1:25 meters sendoff would convert to a 1:17 sendoff in yards (85 seconds divided by 1.1 = 77 seconds = 1:17).

So, you would need to do the conversions and then round up or down to the nearest 5-second increment (unless you want to do a lot of math while you're swimming).

Hope this helps.

Hello Ockert, just curiosity - where do you swim?

Hey there, I don't train with a club etc anymore (used to swim with Santa van Jaarsveld at Maties in the early days and then with her at Strand Club) - but generally swim at the Wembley Square Virgin Active in Gardens over lunch times (Mon - Fri)
And you???

Maties are cool. They have very fast swimmers.
I am at VA in Green Point (Vineyards squad).

Hi Sprinter...
Did you change your pic?
Now I can see you clearly sitting on that rock on a very sunny day. No snow and no hanging!!!
Take care.
