I swim almost everyday in a 25yd or m pool at a local gym. I have been stuck at doing the one length of the pool in 16-17 secs. how do I improve my time? I basically push off, dolphin kick 2-3 times and start going at it hard.

Do you lift weights?

How fast can you kick a 25 from a push?

How many strokes are you doing for the 25 sprint?

i used to lift a lot of weights. so I am pretty muscular. I no longer lift because I do not like the bulky look anymore. So I have trimmed down quite a bit. But still muscular in the chest shoulders and arms.

How fast can you kick a 25 from a push?

Do you mean push off underwater and dolphin kick to the other end? I dont understand.

I usualy push off and stay underwater for maybe 10m bfore coming abover the water. Normally it takes me 9-10 strokes

i can see that long arms and legs with big hands and feet have a huge advantage. The surface area of these body parts can grab and push off so much water on each stroke.

I think for the sprint I am going like 7-8 strokes (left, right = 1 stroke)

can someone help or give me some suggestions? I need to bust this out hardd

hey tony, sorry for late reply. My 25m time from push is below 14sec,12.5 sec from dive My 25m kicking time from push is 18sec without board. http://www.swim-city.com/library.php3?id=74 suggests u a way to train 50m freestyle.by the way, speed endurance is very important
.50m freestyle is not just pure sprinting event, it has a lot of thing to learn.

15 strokes (7-8), maybe you just need to turn the arms over faster.

To do a fast 25 you must also be able to kick fast too.

Been in the pool for about 18 months now with no prior experience, all I can say is getting faster takes LOTS of time, discipline, and practice. You must also know when your doing something incorrectly and fix it.

About the 25 sprint, it is totally unlike the 50 because humans have a about 11 seconds of pure sprint power available, once used up though - your gone. This is why even though I have swam 25 yds in under 12 seconds (without dive), I still cant beat 29 seconds for 50 yds. Even worse, since I am a sprinter 200M for me is about 3:00.

It just takes time and concentration. Underwater footage is extreemly helpful

I don't have a coach ,it is fine.but i dun have the right to use equipment like fins or even a dive in public swimming pool. There are a lot of people in swimming pool and you really cannot focus on the fast swimming : ( i work on 100m freestyle pace and how to reduce the drag created by arm movement.

I did the 25 again today from a pushoff. usually its push off hard and then dolphin kick 2-3 times and then up. I do the straight arm windmill. Today I kept my arms closer together as they enter the water and also kicked as fast as i could while keeping my head mostly down. I dont know the exact time but it has to be around 15-16 secs. I am the only one in the pool training like this. how about you guys? what can i do to go faster? does the kickboard help? I do that 2-3 times a week
