Breaststroke-High Elbow Catch? (Posted by Cameron Kilman)

I know a high elbow is necessary to get a good catch in just about every stroke, but I struggle doing this in breaststroke. Are there any drills, or pieces of equipment that'll help me keep my elbows high?

Also this is off topic, but how do you improve your distance and power during pull-outs? I appreciate any help. :]

I can't believe nobody likes my idea. I love doing this. It takes all of the "grip" of the water away from my lower legs. Then when I take them off my lower legs feel huge.

Thank you for posting this tragic news, James. This is making me more aware how fragile we (our bodies) actually are. We can be so powerful in our minds and bodies and ready to start in the Olympics and then boom all desires for being the best, for representing your country, are crumbled. Washed away. A huge reminder to enjoy every minute of our daily lives, be it in the pool or at work or whatever we are doing. No time for complaining anymore.

Nice. Congrats on the progress. Joining a tri club or masters swimming team (or what the heck...both) is the best thing you can do. Yay!

I am so shocked to hear his death. Only 26 years old! He is fastest breaststroker who wears jammers. I think all swimmers should have a heart test...

Success (Posted by Ed Power)

I've posted on here in the past about being over reliant on a pull buoy and having a poor kick - so in January, I took the bull by the horns and had some swim coaching with video analysis and then joined my local tri club, who swim twice a week for 2 hours a session and guess what.....

I've managed to give up my pull buoy comfort blanket and now have a nice and elegant freestyle stroke and am even bi-lateral breathing (another thing that I did wrong for years).

I'm doing open water swimming events this summer and am hoping to go sub 25mins for a mile!!!

I'm so excited and just wanted to tell everyone (and thank Dave Quatermain and Kenny) at Manchester Triathlon club!!!!!!!

improving freesyle/backstroke kick (Posted by ajay60610)

Trying to improve my freestyle/backstroke kick....tried using ankle weight[1-2 lbs.] along with snorkel and kickboard....not moving very fast after expending a lot of energy....is this a good way to improve one's kick or should i just do kicking without weights and increase the volume of kicking...thks.
